My old Fire TV Stick had been sitting in a drawer since I upgraded the TV. This week Amazon launched the new Fire TV Stick 4K (the 2025 model with the new remote and Alexa+) at $59.99, and I ended up paying $8.99 + tax for it. Here’s exactly how the numbers worked out for me.
The math
- $59.99 – the new Fire TV Stick 4K
- -$30.00 – the introductory code 4KINTRO (half off, runs through October 7, 2026)
- -$6.00 – an extra 20% off for trading in an old device with the purchase
- -$15.00 – Amazon’s trade-in value for my old Fire TV Stick, applied as a gift card at checkout
- = $8.99 + tax
How the trade-in worked for me
On the product page there’s a “Save 20% with Trade-In” option. I picked my old Fire TV Stick, answered a couple of questions about its condition, and Amazon quoted $15 for it. At checkout the 20% trade-in discount and the $15 credit both showed up, on top of the 4KINTRO code. After ordering, Amazon asks you to send the old device back with the shipping label it provides.
Good to know
- Trade-in value depends on your old device and its condition – mine was an older Fire TV Stick in working order.
- Tax depends on your state.
- The code is an introductory offer through October 7; Amazon can end it sooner.
- Check Amazon’s trade-in terms before you send anything back – the credit depends on the device arriving as described.
